Last weekend off could help Preece get Chorley back on track

Chorley boss Andy Preece hopes the lack of a game last weekend will have helped his men recharge their batteries for a packed festive programme.

The Magpies have slipped out of the National League North’s play-off picture after a desperate run of form.

Their 1-1 draw at Worksop last time out, a fortnight ago, meant Chorley have picked up just one win from their past 13 games in all competitions.

They had a Saturday off for a change last weekend, as the FA Trophy took over as the focus for non-league sides.

Chorley were KO’d from the Trophy at the second-round stage when they were beaten at home by Worksop Town – their opponents again last time out in the league, when Milan Lalkovic’s penalty earned a point, preserved by a Matty Urwin penalty save for the Magpies.

Tomorrow they welcome Hereford to the Grant Store Victory Park stadium, aiming to get back on track with a busy Christmas fixture list ahead of them.

Preece told Chorley FC TV: “We are down to the bare bones and a lot of players have played a lot of minutes.

"We’ve got a huge Christmas, playing Hereford, Fylde and Marine – some really difficult games but games the fans can really look forward to.”
