Bamber Bridge snatched a late victory at relegation threatened Harrogate Railway Athletic in the NPL First Division North.

It looked like the hosts would claim all three points as Dan Thirkwell handed them a 54th minute lead.

But Brig battled back into the match when Matty Kay equalised 11 minutes from time. It was left to Jamie Milligan to seal the victory from the penalty spot in the last minute.

In an entertaining opening period, Regan Linney and Alastair Waddecar were both denied, while Rail went close through Ovington and Devine.

The visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock when Curtis Thompson was left unmarked but could only find thBrig were stunned nine minutes after the interval when Thirkell to curl a beautyt into the top right corner.

As expected, the visitors piled men forward in search of an equaliser, but it looked like it was not going to be their day.

Bamber’s pressure eventually paid off in the 79th minute when a quickly taken free kick was crossed into the box and knocked down to the edge of the area where Kay produced an accurate low drive into the bottom corner.

Rail’s Curtis and Brig’s Milligan then had goals disallowe, but the former Everton and Blackpool man was not going to be denied when the referee pointed to the spot with just second remaining after a foul by Peers.

Milligan tucked the spot-kick confidently home to seal all three points.

Elsewhere, in the division, Lancaster City were beaten 1-0 by Trafford at home and Burscough were beaten 2-1 by Spennymoor Town.
