“It’s a sad day for the club and for everyone concerned”: Jim Bentley's reaction after Morecambe suffer another relegation
Morecambe boss Jim Bentley could not hide his disappointment after their third relegation in four years was confirmed.
Saturday’s 5-1 loss at Woking means the Shrimps will be in National League North next season.

Bentley said: “I’m gutted. It’s a sad day for the club and for everyone concerned.
“I’ve had a few difficult times in football but this is the lowest point in my managerial career because it’s the club that I love.
“I thought I could come in and turn it round but the game typified where we are at this season.
“Their first goal was far too easy because we just didn’t defend it well enough.
“We had opportunities to clear it but it goes in the back of their net with their first shot on target and then we concede another straight from a corner.
“We got back into it and were well in the game at half-time but their third goal was a killer for us.
“They were ruthless after that and punished us as we put people forward and tried to chase the game.
“At half-time the other results were going our way and I opened up on the players to let them know this was a big opportunity for us to get the win we needed.
“I didn’t see enough if I’m being perfectly honest and that has also typified where we are at.
"There’s some players who have had a decent enough season, some have been average, some that aren’t good enough and some who have contributed nothing at all.
“You can’t expect to be up the table if that is the case.”
