Flow of goals is delighting PNE boss Alex

They found the net 11 times in six games last month in 
contrast to the two goals scored in five Championship matches in August.

They put three goals past Cardiff and Birmingham, then scored twice in the win over Hull and last Saturday’s draw with Sunderland.

North End boss Alex Neil thinks the addition of goals to their play has made his team an attractive one to watch and is pleased with how that side of their game has developed.

Neil said: “Looking back at Saturday, I thought it was a good game from an entertainment point of view.

“One criticism of us had been goals but I don’t think you saw two better goals on Saturday than the ones we scored.

“There was Josh Harrop’s free-kick and then Jordan Hugill’s screamer with his ‘bad’ foot from the edge of the box. This is a really good young team of boys who will work their socks off.

“If you want to come and watch a team who work until the last minute and give everything they have got, then we are that team.”

In August, Preston’s two goals came in the 1-0 wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Reading.

Returning to action in September, they drew 1-1 with Barnsley before beating Cardiff 3-0.

That was followed by the 3-1 away win at Birmingham, the one blank being the 0-0 draw with Millwall.

Neil’s men won 2-1 at Hull before bringing the curtain down on September with the 2-2 draw against Sunderland.

In terms of goals, Hugill is PNE’s leading scorer with five in all competitions – three in the Championship and the two he got at Accrington in the League Cup.

Tom Barkhuizen, Daniel Johnson, Sean Maguire and Harrop have all netted twice.

Alan Browne scored from 45 yards against Cardiff, with Callum Robinson heading the late winner at Hull.
