Coaster boss Mahon is eager to see response after defeat
AFC Fylde travel to Alfreton Town this afternoon (3pm) looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat at the hands of National League North promotion rivals South Shields.
The Mariners ran out 4-2 winners at Mill Farm to take the Coasters' place at the top. It was Fylde's third defeat of the campaign and boss Craig Mahon wants to see an immediate response from his men at struggling Alfreton today.
Speaking to the club's in-house media, Mahon said: “You're always disappointed when you lose a game of football but I'm also proud of the lads. I thought they gave everything they could.
“It was a really good game – two really good clubs trying to win a game, and fortunately enough for South Shields I thought they came out of it with the better moments.

“I thought we started brilliantly, our press – we got our rewards – and then I think if you look back at the four goals we conceded, that’s not like us.
“There’s mistakes in there that we wouldn’t normally do but, listen, it was a good game of football. We conceded at the wrong times I felt – especially going in 2-1 (down) at half-time, conceding that late is a travesty.
“Getting back to 2-2 is brilliant but then we just got killed off.”
Mahon stressed that there is no need to panic after the defeat.
He added: “It’s November – nothing is won and lost in November. There’s still 29 more matches to go and we’ll reassess, regroup and make sure we come away with the three points this Saturday when we go to Alfreton.”
