The FA’s Alliance Committee met on Friday to consider the joint proposal from a group of non-league step two clubs from National League North and South.

That would have seen the ‘mini-league’ formed in order to complete the season.

Chorley had been among 19 clubs who lost the original vote – their season was declared null and void three weeks ago – but campaigned to play on among themselves and fight for promotion to the National League.

However, a statement read as follows: “The Alliance Committee have considered a paper from the National League addressing the National League resolutions in relation to the 2020/21 season and an alternative proposal from certain clubs at step two.

“Subject to FA Council approval, the Alliance Committee decided to support the outcome of the National League resolution resulting in the continuation of step one; that the 2020/21 season is declared null and void at step two with no promotion or relegation from step two (or relegation from step one).

“Consideration was also given to an alternative sporting solution at step two in line with a proposal submitted by certain step two clubs that wished to continue playing.

“The Alliance Committee rejected the proposal, and any alternative, in the interest of the integrity of the National League System.

“Further reasons for this decision will be communicated directly to clubs in due course.”
