But the move has opened a can of worms after Magpies boss Matt Jansen slammed County for the ‘unprofessional’ manner in which they secured Ross’ signature.

Jansen is disappointed to see Ross, who played every minute for Chorley in the 2015-16 season, leave the club and wished him all the best for the future.

But the Chorley boss is fuming with Ross’ new club County and their manager James Gannon for how they allegedly coaxed the 27-year-old right-back away from Victory Park.

Jansen claims County approached Ross when he was still under contract at Chorley and also alleged that they have made moves for three other players.

He says County also tried to lure goalkeeper Sam Ashton, striker James Dean and full-back Courtney Meppen-Walter away from Victory Park.

The former Blackburn Rovers striker says he has never known anything like it during his long football career.

And he says the club have put an official complaint into the league about County’s behaviour.

He said:“They have acted unprofessionally and I am very disappointed.

“We have put an official complaint in.

“Our chairman Ken Wright is getting involved and the manner in which they have acted is so disappointing.

“When we want to sign a player we always put seven days on them and we always approach the club or the manager.

“They have not done that with us and they should be punished.

“It is a disgrace in my opinion.

“I have no problem with Mark. We are disappointed he has decided to leave but he gave his all for the club and he wants a new challenge.”

The Lancashire Evening Post has approached Stockport County for a comment.
