Chorley 2 BrackleyTown 2: Taylor double rescues point for battling Magpies

Chorley produced a never-say-die second-half comeback to rescue a draw against Brackley Town at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium on bank holiday Monday.

The Magpies found themselves two goals behind with half an hour remaining after Tahvon Campbell struck twice for the visitors, but a late brace from Elliot Taylor ensured Andy Preece’s side snatched a point out of the contest.

Campbell opened the scoring in the 27th minute after receiving the ball inside the penalty area. Max Hunt did well to force the forward wide and reduce the angle, but Campbell produced an outstanding finish into the near top corner, leaving Li-Bau Stowell with no chance.

The Brackley striker doubled his tally shortly after the restart, again making the most of a tight angle as he fired into the roof of the net to put the visitors firmly in control.

Chorley refused to surrender, though, and pulled one back in the 79th minute. The ball fell to Adam Blakeman around 25 yards from goal, and his powerful effort eventually found Taylor who wrong-footed Brackley goalkeeper Harrison Rhone to give the Magpies hope.

That hope quickly became reality. With 12 minutes left, Stowell’s long goal-kick was not dealt with by the Brackley defence, allowing Taylor to pounce inside the penalty area quite brilliantly and prod the ball home to complete the comeback.

The Magpies now turn their attention to Saturday’s trip to Oxford City.
