Birmingham City swoop in as Hull City and Southampton eye ex-Preston North End man
Latest gossip and transfer news from across the Championship
Here are your Thursday evening (06/06) Championship headlines.

Ex-PNE man wanted by duo
Liam Delap is reportedly a target for newly-promoted Southampton, but Hull City want the striker back next season after his loan spell. The Manchester City man is contracted for another two years, but reports have suggested that Delap is free to leave the Premier League champions - who will be looking for £10million. The Sun report that Delap is a target for Russell Martin’s side, while Hull’s owner has already labelled the forward as their ‘number one target’.
Birmingham City swoop in for PNE ‘target’
It was reported earlier this week that Marc Leonard would not be joining Preston North End this summer. The Lilywhites were linked with a move for the Brighton midfielder, who impressed on loan at Northampton Town over the last two seasons. A fee of £300k has been suggested as Leonard’s price tag, with the Seagulls willing to sell. North End didn’t press on with a deal and now it’s reported that Birmingham City are looking to get a deal done.
Clubs chasing Blackburn Rovers forward
Sam Gallagher is being linked with a potential move away from Ewood Park. It’s being reported that Ipswich Town, Luton Town and Swansea City are all admirers of the 28-year-old - who has one year left on his Blackburn contract. The Rovers man signed in 2019 and has scored 27 goals in 188 appearances for Rovers. Gallagher netted three times in the Championship last season.
Tottenham Hotspur coach to St Andrew’s
Birmingham City have appointed Spurs assistant Chris Davies as their new manager. Since Tony Mowbray stepped down from the role, several managers had been linked with the vacancy - including ex-PNE boss Alex Neil, Frank Lampard and Paul Heckingbottom. Davies became Ange Postecoglou’s number two in June 2023 and has also worked at Swansea City, Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester City - alongside Brendan Rodgers.
Norwich City complete signing
The Canaries have made their first addition of the Johannes Hoff Thorup era. They have brought in Levski Sofia defender Jose Cordoba, for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old has played 12 times for Panama at international level and will officially become a Norwich player on June 14. He played 90 games for Levski. Norwich sporting director, Ben Knapper, said: "He is a player we have been tracking for a long time and we think he fits really well with what we’re looking for.”
