Brig searching for a winning formula

They have been beaten by Glossop, Spennymoor and Ossett Town in the past week, all games which Brig manager Neil Crowe felt they could have taken something from.

A mounting injury list has not helped their cause, with Curtis Thompson, Glenn Steel and Paul Alexander all hurt in last Saturday’s visit to Spennymoor.

The head injury suffered by midfielder Thompson was a big cause for concern at the time and he is unlikely to be fit for tomorrow’s clash.

Said Crowe: “Curtis went for a header near to the side of the pitch.

“Unfortunately he slid off the pitch and hit his head on a brick wall.

“He had a scan on his head, back and neck because we thought it could be serious.

“It’s not quite as bad but it’s still muscular and concussion, so we won’t take any risks.

“Paul Alexander and Glenn Steel were injured too but I’m hoping to have them back for the Droylsden game.

“On Tuesday, Paul made the bench against Ossett but he was only on to make up the numbers.”

Looking back at the 1-0 loss to Ossett, Crowe was rueful of what happened at both ends of the pitch.

He said: “We created lots of chances but didn’t take them.

“Then an individual error at the other end cost us.

“We keep making those mistakes and it is something we need to address.

“I’m not pinning it on any one individual player, it is six of one and half-a-dozen of the other.

“We went to Spennymoor last week and should have won the game against a strong side.

“Things just aren’t going for us at the moment but we will work hard to try and make sure we finish the season with some good results.

“It will be a tough game against Droylsden, they beat us 4-0 at their place earlier in the season.

“They have won two out of the last three and as I’ve always said, there are no easy games in this division.

“We have got three games to go, then we can assess things in the summer and re-group. We will see what we need and what the resources are.”
