Boss Jansen demands response

The Magpies travel to Hednesford Town this weekend in the national League North still smarting from the 1-0 defeat to City at Victory Park on Tuesday.

The defeat ended a run of three successive victories, but Jansen expects his men to get back on the winning trail quickly.

“It was very frustrating,” Jansen said. “Coming off the back of three wins and a draw where we were playing well and full of confidence.

“They scored from free header from a set-play, but that’s all they had.

“We had more of the play and the most disappointing thing for me is that we are a lot better team than they are and for them to come away with all three points is doubly frustrating. “We have been doing really well of late so the loss to Gloucester is a kick in the teeth because I feel like we have been doing well for the last two, maybe three months.

“For me, we are still an in-form team.

“It was a blip on Tuesday, we will put it right on Saturday against Hednesford.

“We will travel there in good spirits.

“It was lack-lustre performance against Gloucester, which we will put right at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Jansen – who watched his team get the better of Worcester City at Victory Park on Saturday – spoke of his delight at the re-signing of Jack Dorney, while Jack Lynch has signed a new contract.

Dorney returned to the Magpies from Trafford last Friday and Lynch committed his future until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Both players featured on Saturday and Tuesday, with Dorney replacing Lynch at the weekend and the pair reversed roles on Tuesday

Jansen said: “I never wanted to lose Jack but he wanted to play regularly.

“Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener, he has come back and he did fantastically well on Saturday.

“Lynch has signed a new contract which we are delighted about because he is a key player going forward.”

In the National League, Southport travel to Lincoln.
