Although the game was technically a home one for the Seasiders it was switched to PNE's Academy headquarters at Springfields the previous evening.

PNE clearly felt at home as with barely two minutes on the clock they took the lead when Reid picked the ball up 25 yards out, drilling a hard, low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

The lead was short lived when, just five minutes later, Pool centre-forward Shay Mannix latched on to a passfrom Kian Daley, and shrugged off the challenge of Ollie Green to turn and hit the ball past PNE's 16 year old keeper Will Pegrum to level up the scores.

In the 13th minute, the action-packed opening to the game continued when PNE's wall blocked a Blackpool free-kick from outside the area.

The ball was then cleared away up to Marshall Longson on the halfway line, who spun his marker and dribbled to the edge of the area before slotting home a cool finish past Pool's advancing keeper Ben Chivers.

PNE centre-half Charlie Whalley cleared off the line, then Mannix shot into the side netting as Blackpool pressed for an equaliser.

At the other end the lively Longson had a shot saved by Chivers and Hickey was very unlucky when he was in a position to force the ball home at the back post only for the cross to bounce off the post and drop into the arms of Chivers.

PNE increased their lead nine minutes before the interval with another goal from Reid which was almost a carbon copy of his first goal when he fired another low drive 25 yards out from goal.

In the 67th minute Henry Jones hit the bar for Pool, then straight away PNE went upfield to score another goal which ended the Seasiders’ resistance. First-year scholar Hickey hit a powerful strike into the net after picking the ball up 10 yards outside the penalty area.
