Big match focus: Blackburn v PNE

MEET THE BOSS:Paul Lambert was named as Blackburn's new boss last November and his first game in charge was the 2-1 win over PNE at Deepdale.

The Scotsman’s previous job had been as Aston Villa manager, with him in post at Villa Park for almost three years. Prior to that, Lambert managed Norwich City, guiding the Canaries to back-to-back promotions from League One through to the Premier League. He has also managed Colchester, Wycombe and Livingston. As a player, Lambert wore the colours of St Mirren, Dortmund, Celtic and Livingston.

MEET THE REF:

Experienced Football League referee Eddie Ilderton is in charge of Preston’s visit to Blackburn. He was in the middle for PNE’s 1-1 draw with Bristol City earlier in the season. This is his 13th campaign on the league list, with him having taken charge of 26 games this season.

On April 2, 1960, Preston beat Fulham 4-1 at Deepdale. Tom Finney scored twice, while there were goals for Les Dagger and Davie Sneddon. It was Finney’s final season and he played just six more games before hanging up his boots.

29 YEARS AGO:

Preston beat promotion rivals Northampton Town 1-0 in a Friday night clash on the Deepdale plastic in front of a crowd of more than 16,000. Gary Brazil netted the game’s only goal against the table-topping Cobblers on April 3, 1987. Both sides went on to be promoted.

25 YEARS AGO:

On April 1, 1991, Preston beat Stoke City 1-0 at the Victoria Ground. A goal from Graham Shaw settled the Easter Monday clash in favour of Les Chapman’s men. It formed part of a 
six-game unbeaten run.
