Bamber Bridge suspend all football activity after player tests positive for coronavirus

Bamber Bridge have been forced to suspend all football activity after one of its players tested positive for Covid-19.

In line with government and FA guidance all football activity will now be ceased at the club for the next 14 days. This includes all training and competitive matches.

A statement from the club said: "In line with FA requirements the club have also now withdrawn from this year’s FA Cup.

Brig were due to face Atherton Collieries away on Tuesday evening in the FA Cup first round of qualifying. They were due to travel to Ashton United at the weekend in NPL Premier Division.

The club and the individual involved are following all the necessary requirements in relation to track and trace.

The player affected, who tested positive after a test which was taken on Sunday, is fully fit and has not displayed any symptoms, however in line with government requirements he is now required to self isolate for 10 days.

"It is accepted that the player may have contracted the infection whilst training or playing at the club. Bamber Bridge FC have implemented significant procedures to ensure the safety of all players, staff and visitors to the club and to minimise the risk of transmission.
