Anton Forrester: Striker aims to put injury hell behind him at Morecambe

Anton Forrester is hoping to put his injury hell behind him during his time at the Globe Arena.

The Blackburn Rovers loanee made his first league start in almost two years when he led the line in Morecambe’s 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 21-year-old Liverpudlian was then handed a second start against Fleetwood in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat having previously impressed in League 2 while on loan at Bury.

It was at Gigg Lane that he picked up a cruciate knee ligament injury in March 2014 however which, coupled with hamstring problems, meant the powerful front man missed almost the entirety of last season.

Forrester said: “It’s good to just get back playing really.

“Since I picked up the knee injury at Bury I haven’t played a league game for two years so it feels good.

“It was great with Bury, my first loan, and when I got told the news (about the knee injury) I was devastated.

“It took my a long time to get back and thankfully Blackburn offered me a new contract.

“When I did get back I had problems with my hamstrings but everything’s alright now.”

Forrester, who has signed for an initial month, will be hoping to spearhead The Shrimps attack against Exeter at the Globe Arena on Saturday.

He believes he has joined a side that is capable of a run at the play-offs.

The former Everton youngster, who came through the ranks at Goodison Park with the likes of Ross Barkley, said: “I think it’s a great squad that the gaffer’s got here.

“They should be aiming for the play-offs I think.

“That’s what’s the gaffer’s said to the lads and I think they can do it.

“Hopefully I can help them achieve that.”

Like all loanees, Forrester knows impressing on loan could see him force his way into the first-team picture at Ewood Park under new boss Paul Lambert.

He said: “They’ve told me to come here, do the business and then see what happens.”
