Three members of the Greenwood family played in Hoghton’s 56-run victory at Smithy Brow.

Former Preston North End striker Nigel Greenwood, his son Sam and daughter Charlotte, were in the Hoghton side.

It was the first time three members of the same family have played together in one of Hoghton’s teams.

In the first innings, dad Nigel scored 24, with Sam hitting 10 as Hoghton were 147-7 in 45 overs – Charlotte did not bat.

Sam and Charlotte both bowled, Sam helping himself to two wickets in a 12-over spell as Withnell Fold were bowled out for 91 in reply.

For good measure, Nigel took a catch.

A club spokesman said: “As far as we know, this was the first time that three members of the same family had played together for Hoghton.”

Nigel Greenwood had two spells with North End, playing more than 100 games.

He made his debut as a teenager in 1984, scoring 15 goals in two seasons.

In 1986, Greenwood was sold to Bury for £15,000, returning to Deepdale in 1992.

He also played for Halifax, Accrington Stanley and Bamber Bridge.
