Chorley frustrated by Barrow tail in rain-affected draw

Chorley set the hosts a target of 171 to win after they amassed a total of 170-8 batting first.

The game was reduced to 37 overs each due to the wet weather.

And it was Chorley’s tail that helped the visitors reach the 170 mark. Opener Stuart Naden added 17, but the visitors lost two early wickets, with opening batsman Andrew Holdsworth out for a duck and captain Ian Dickson out for two moments later.

South African star Wihan Lubbe (15) and Will Moulton (39) added runs in the middle order, and the tail wagged with Joseph Tiffin (33) and Ed Moulton (31) firing Chorley up to a good total.

Chorley made a great start with the ball as Ed Moulton trapped Barrow opener Kaustubh Pawar for a duck.

But opener Toby Mowat (31) and number three Sam Dutton (30) steadied the ship.

Dean Williams (14) and Michael Williams (19) added more runs, but Lubbe took three quick wickets with the 37th over approaching.

But despite Lubbe’s late efforts Christopher D’Leny and Ryna Gilmour held out to get Barrow over the line.

Chorley ended with nine points and a winning draw that pushed them up to third in the Northern Premier Cricket League Division One table.

Leyland’s game against Kendal was abandoned.
