Fulwood Amateurs hosting charity football match for 27-year-old battling terminal cancer
‘This event is for Jamie, his family and friends to come together to help raise money for Jamie’s care (and) support’
Fulwood Amateurs will host a charity football match on Sunday, 31 May (1pm kick-off) in support of Jamie Marvill.

The-27-year-old, from Preston, has been fighting cancer since December 2023 and it is now terminal. At the age of 24, Marvill was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After having the testicle removed and a prosthetic fitted, the cancer spread to both of Jamie’s lungs - he was told over the phone by doctors, while on holiday in Ibiza with friends.
It was a rare form called mixed germ cell cancer, stage four. He went through nine rounds of aggressive chemotherapy and had 14 tumours removed from his lungs, but after a couple of weeks they had started to grow back. Jamie then suffered a seizure and was diagnosed with brain cancer - which required major surgery.
Jamie, unable to work since August 2025, said the financial strain has made his battle ‘even more difficult’. His GoFundMe page has raised almost £19,000 of the £30,000 target. More than 570 donations have been made, 20 per cent of which will go to the Neurological Ward at Royal Preston Hospital.
Speaking earlier this year, Marvill said: “If something doesn’t feel right in your body, go and get checked. Don’t be embarrassed. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.”

Sunday’s event costs £5 a ticket and is named the Jamie Marvill Trophy, with money going towards the 27-year-old’s care and support. You can buy a ticket using this link. There will be a DJ, live singer, face-painter and children’s penalty shoot-out, with medals and certificates for all kids who take part.
Former PNE players Andy Lonergan and Paul Gallagher will take part, as well as ex-England international Rickie Lambert. The game will see Marvis XI play North West Community Stars FC - a football team set up to help those in need within the community. North End legend Graham Alexander will manage Marvis XI on the day.
NWCS FC said on Facebook: ‘We are in close contact with Jamie and his Mum, Emma and what a beautiful, amazing, brave family they are. That's why your support is so much appreciated because together we can and will make Sunday 31st May a truly special day for Jamie and his family.
‘It will be a day when the football family, friends and strangers come together to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jamie and his family to show our love and support.
‘Cancer has no colours so we are also asking the football family - no matter what team you support - to bring your team’s scarf, flag, tops and together make this a day to remember for Jamie and his family.’
