Preston's Scott Fitzgerald shares ring with Amir Khan ahead of return to action
Scott Fitzgerald has been sharing the ring with one of boxing's biggest names ahead of his return to action later this month.
Preston’s rising star has been sparring with Bolton’s former world champion Amir Khan with the pair both in action at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on April 21.
Khan tops the bill live on Sky Sports against Phil Lo Greco in his first fight in nearly two years with Commonwealth Games gold medalist Fitzgerald looking to build on his 9-0 start to his professional career on the undercard.
The 26-year-old super welterweight prospect, who trains at Jennings Gym in Coppull, is looking to kick on towards major titles in 2018.
His last fight saw him put in arguably his most impressive display thus far as he stopped Ghanaian Ishmael Tetteh in the first round at the Victoria Warehouse Hotel in Manchester back on February 25.
The eye-catching performance saw Fitzgerald make in seven knockout victories in the paid ranks.
Elsewhere his Jennings Gym stable mate Mark Jeffers will also soon in action on a major undercard.
The 20-year-old Eccleston middleweight, 6-0, is slated in to be part of the supporting bill when Hughie Fury, Tyson’s cousin, challenges Sam Sexton for the British heavyweight title at the Bolton Whites Hotel at Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium on Saturday, May 12.
More Lancashire interest on the card comes in the form of Morecambe super lightweight Reece MacMillan.
The 22-year-old, trained by John Donaghy in Preston, is currently 5-1 having suffered his only defeat as a professional when stepping up to face Kirkham’s former English champion Adam Little at short notice last September.
Opponents for Fitzgerald, Jeffers and MacMillan in the coming weeks are to be confirmed.
The Sexton-Fury card is live on Channel 5.
