The 26-year-old hurt his right-hand during his last-round stoppage victory over Craig Morris.

The light-middleweight ace is set to be out of action for four weeks as he waits for the injury to heal.

"After snapping a bone in my hand last fight, it is setting strong back in place and I won't be needing an operation," Fitzgerald said on social media.

"Out of cast in four weeks, hopefully fight before the year's up."

Whether that fight will be against domestic rival Anthony Fowler in a blockbuster dust-up remains to be seen.

Should a bout against his former Great Britain team-mate be arranged, Fitzgerald has admitted he will have to be better than he was in his last fight.

The Jennings Gym ace was given a real fright by Morris with many people have the Shropshire fighter ahead on the scorecards until Fitzgerald dug deep in the final round to earn the stoppage.

"It was a very good lesson which I needed badly," said Fitzgerald. "Someone up there sent for me and allowed me to pull out of the bag after being awful."
