Umbrella Academy is back with its time-bending second season, picking up the pieces following an explosive season one finale.

At the conclusion of the first season, Number Five was forced to use his time travelling powers to rescue the seemingly doomed Hargreeves siblings from the wrath of sister Vanya.

And as the trailer for season two suggested, this rescue mission didn’t go off without a hitch, transforming the siblings back to the 1960s.

Who’s returning in season two?

Though the future of the season one cast looked precarious in last year’s finale, the majority of the season one cast are returning.

Ellen Page will reprise her role as the misunderstood and volatile violinist Vanya Hargreeves.

At the tail-end of season viewers discovered that the previously powerless character was capable of bending soundwaves and telekinesis.

Tom Hooper also returns as Luther Hargreeves. The golden child of the family, Luther is blessed with super strength but suffers with confidence issues following a fabled trip to Mars.

David Castaneda yet again plays knife-throwing martial artist Diego Hargreeves.

Robert Sheehan of Misfits fame returns as Klaus Hargreeves, a troubled, erratic and recovering addict. He is able to communicate with the dead – a power which he has struggled to come to grips with.

Aidan Gallagher plays the string-pulling Five Hargreeves who delighted audiences in season one with his wit. His time-travelling super power allowed him and the Hargreeves siblings to escape certain doom.

Emmy Raver-Lampman of Hamilton fame plays Allison Hargreeves who is able to manipulate reality with her voice.

Justin Min meanwhile plays Ben Hargreeves. Ben died before season one and is therefore only able to communicate with Klaus Hargreeves.

New cast members

Ritu Arya plays the character of Lila in season two. She joins up with Diego Hargreeves who finds himself in a 1960s mental hospital at the start of season two.

She’s described as “a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires.”

Yusuf Gatewood plays Raymond Chestnut, a man “with the smarts, gravitas, and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone.

He is warm, dedicated and has the innate ability to disarm you with a “look”. He teams up with Allison in civil-rights movement era America. You may recognise him from Amazon drama Good Omens.

Marin Ireland arrives as Sissy, Vanya’s love interest for season two. She has previously appeared in Hell or High Water.

Mary J Blige and Cameron Britton don’t return in season 2, but they’re replaced in the antagonist stakes by murderous trio The Swedes.

They’re played by Kris Holden-Ried, Jason Bryden and Tom Sinclair.
