As lockdown eases - remember the key safety and hygiene measures
As lockdown restrictions begin to ease, it is important to remember key safety and hygiene measures remain in place.
The Government’s Stay Alert, Control the Virus and Save Lives slogan is still on-message.
Experts, including those from the World Health Organisation, are consistent in their advice.
Wash your handsRegularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds - for as long as it takes to sing Happy Birthday song twice.All shops, attractions, pubs and restaurants that are reopening or already opened have hand sanitiser stations which you must use.Keep alcohol-based hand sanitizers out of children’s reach. Teach them how to apply the sanitiser and monitor its use.Apply a coin-sized amount on your hands. There is no need to use a large amount of the product.Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose immediately after using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser, as it can cause irritation.Hand sanitizers recommended to protect against COVID-19 are alcohol-based and therefore can be flammable.
Social distancingMaintain at least one metre - three feet - distance between yourself and others. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person has the disease.Don’t touch eyes, nose and mouthHands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and infect you.Follow good respiratory hygieneThis means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately and wash your hands.
Wear a maskThe advice is only to use public transport - buses, the tube, trams and trains - if it is essential travel.All passengers must wear face masks to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.Work from homeIf you are able, you are advised to work from home.
SymptomsThese can include a high temperature, a dry, persistent cough, loss of sense of taste, runny nose or sneezing, feeling or being sick, diarrhoea, loss of appetite. If you have symptoms, self-isolate for seven days.Only stop self-isolating when the symptoms stop.
