'Brighten your morning with these fabulous flamingos' New mural brightens up everyone's day at GP surgery
A new vibrant flamingo mural created by patients at Over Wyre Medical Centre is celebrated by Wyre Council for boosting community creativity and wellbeing.
“Brighten your morning with these fabulous flamingos”.
A colourful new mural featuring flamingos has been unveiled at Over Wyre Medical Centre, celebrating the creativity of local patients and the positive impact of art on health and wellbeing.
The artwork was created by patients taking part in an art group led by professional artist Heather Johnstone, with the project receiving praise from Wyre Council for bringing people together while helping them develop new skills.
In a statement, the council said: “Brighten your morning with these fabulous flamingos! This beautiful artwork has been created by patients at Over Wyre Medical Centre, as part of an art group led by professional artist Heather Johnstone.”
It added: “This group has helped people learn new skills and improve their mental wellbeing, with lots of fun and chat. A huge thank you to everyone for taking part!”

The mural highlights the growing role that creative activities can play in supporting both physical and mental wellbeing, while also helping to reduce social isolation by bringing people together through shared interests.
The project is one of a number of health and wellbeing initiatives taking place across Wyre, where residents are encouraged to take part in regular activities designed to promote healthier lifestyles, enjoy the outdoors, meet new people and discover new hobbies.
Among the opportunities available is the weekly Art, Take Part group, held at Garstang Library. Led by an experienced volunteer artist, the sessions give participants the chance to learn a range of creative techniques, with a particular focus on watercolour painting.
Organisers say the relaxed sessions are suitable for everyone, including people living with dementia, and offer the chance to make new friends while taking home completed artwork at the end of each session.
The new flamingo mural stands as a lasting reminder of the benefits of creativity, community and conversation, with patients transforming a shared space into a vibrant display that reflects both their artistic talents and the positive impact the group has had on their wellbeing.
