A woman was hospitalised with “serious injuries” after a car crash in Darwen.

Emergency services were called after a Renault Clio and a Volkswagen Scirocco collide on Long Hey Lane at around 3.10pm on Saturday.

A woman in her 20s was taken to Royal Preston Hospital following the crash.

Police described her injuries as “serious but not life-threatening”.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “The road was closed for several hours while investigation work was carried out.

“It has since re-opened.”
