POLICE have launched an appeal after a bizarre assault in a pie shop.

Officers received a report from Greenhalgh’s Bakery on Fishergate, Preston, that at around 8am on Friday April 8 a female customer was approached from behind by a man.

He then went on to grab her shoulders and put his arms around her.

A member of staff intervened before the woman was able to break free and leave the shop.

The man left the bakery a short time later.

Det Con Kate Clancy from Preston CID said: “This incident was reported to us after it happened and we are keen to trace the woman involved so that we can speak to her directly and check that she is okay.

“Unfortunately we do not have any further details about the woman and as such we have so far been unable to contact her. I would urge her, if she sees this appeal, to come forward and get in touch with us.

“Similarly, if anyone was in the bakery at the time and has any information that could help with our enquiries, I would urge them to contact us.”
