Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to take the roof off the middle-aged motorist’s Citroen C5, before loading her onto a stretcher and carrying her to a waiting ambulance.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where she was treated for spinal and back injuries. She is not believed to have been seriously hurt.

The emergency services were called to the accident, which happened in Duddle Lane, Bamber Bridge, at around 3.15pm yesterday.

It involved the Citroen and a Vauxhall Mokka, which had been travelling in the opposite direction, crew manager David Widdop from Bamber Bridge Fire Station said.

“When we arrived we worked closely with the paramedics who were already there, and they said the lady had spinal and lower back injuries,” he said.

“As a precaution we removed the roof from the vehicle and carried out a standard spinal board removal.”
