Why traffic wardens were outside this village primary school this week
Concerns over parking outside a village primary school have been investigated this week.
A Lancashire County Council (LCC) Civil Enforcement Officer was in attendance in School Lane, Longton, on Tuesday afternoon, monitoring traffic in the area while parents collected children from Longton Primary School.
Speaking to parents outside the school gates, the officer announced he and colleagues would be conducting repeated visits, and it comes following complaints from residents in the area.
“Unsafe or obstructive parking”
Matt Townsend, director of Highways and Transport, said: "We operate an intelligence‑led enforcement service, and our officers attend locations daily where we have received reports of ongoing concerns, past issues, or new information indicating that parking behaviour may be creating safety risks, particularly around schools.
"In this case, we received a specific request to provide a Civil Enforcement Officer presence at Longton Primary School due to concerns raised about unsafe or obstructive parking in the surrounding area.”

He added: “We routinely support schools across Lancashire where parking or traffic issues have been highlighted. Attendance may be repeated over several days or weeks where concerns continue, or if visibility is needed to encourage safer parking habits."
