We’ll have a ball remembering Garry

A family bereaved a decade ago has organised a summer ball in memory of their son and brother.

The “10 year Summer Memorial Ball” in honour of the late Garry Jones will be held on August 10 at the Wyre Bank Banqueting suite in Garstang,

Garry’s mother Pam says she is hoping for a bumper turn out and the family has chosen to donate proceeds from the £25 tickets to national charity Help For Heroes.

Garry, a keen Preston North End supporter, was the eldest of four children.

Dad Tony and siblings Yvonne 27, Philip, 22 and Vicki 21, will all be helping with the black tie and cocktail dress event.

Garry died after a week in intensive care at Hope Hospital following a car accident near Lancaster Golf Club. Following his death the family had a huge fund raising effort raising cash for a brain scanner for Hope.

Friend and former Garstang High classmate Vikki Sherouse, 30, who is also the girlfriend of Garry’s best friend Michael Ashworth, said: “We want to raise lots of money but more than that it’s an opportunity to celebrate Garry’s life.

“It doesn’t seem like 10 years ago - Garry was a big personality, everybody who met him loved him. He was so funny and kind and nice.”

Pam thanked local businesses for their generosity in donating prizes for the raffle.

She added Garry, who attended Forton Primary School, had joined the RAF for a short time and this had prompted their choice of charity: “We’ll have a couple of chaps coming from Help For Heroes telling how they use the money and where it goes. We’ll be selling Help wristbands at the event.”
