A Met Office spokesman for the North West said: "A wet and breezy start across most parts, with some heavy bursts over the hills of Cumbria. The rain will ease for a time in the south but return intermittently during the afternoon, while the north stays wet throughout. Humid. Maximum temperature 24 °C."
