And it was on a birthday that they tied the knot at St John the Baptist Church, Broughton on May 17.

The couple, who are both from Fulwood, met when they attended Broughton High School but it was on a night out in Preston in June 2011 that they exchanged numbers.

Jenny, a bank customer service officer says; “Lee approached me in the Wellington pub and we chatted a bit via text a bit before we actually had our first date in November 2011 at the Black Bull in Fulwood.”

The relationship blossomed from there and the couple found out they were expecting a year later.

Jenny says:“We found out we were expecting in June 2012 so I was just over five months pregnant when Lee proposed.

“I had absolutely no idea it was coming.”

Lee, a precision engineer, spoke to Jenny’s parents and sought her dad’s permission before whisking her away for the weekend in November 2012 for their one year anniversary.

“We stayed in the Macdonald Hotel in Manchester and had a beautiful meal out at The Stock restaurant,” says Jenny.

“When we got back to the room Lee had champagne ready and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

“Being pregnant, my emotions were everywhere but it was the most exciting and best moment of my life as I knew from the first night he approached me in the pub I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.”

The couple’s big day was a double celebration as it was also the 89th birthday of the bride’s grandpa, Stanley Hedges.

Following the church ceremony which included the Broughton choir and bell ringers, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed drinks and canapes on arrival at the Villa at Wrea Green’s newly refurbished pavillion.

Jenny says; “It is overwhelming how quickly the day goes. People who are married do tell you this but you don’t realise.

“We both want to re-live it all over again, the day was perfect and we honestly doubt anythign could have made it better for us.
