The dad involved rang for officers to attend St Maria Goretti RC Primary School in Gamull Lane, Ribbleton, just after 9am.

A police spokesman said: “The man said that after watching his child through the school gates, the caretaker came out of the playground area and started punching his car and threatening to punch him.

“He’s gone to find the headmaster and asked for the police to attend.”

Police said both men have since been spoken to and have given differing accounts.

The spokesman added: “The caretaker said the man’s car was blocking the school gates and he tapped on the window, asking him to move it.

“After 15 minutes the car was still blocking the gates, so he banged on the window.

“He claims the parent then was abusive to him, so he walked off.

“Both men have been spoken to, but no action has been taken.”
