UPDATE: 'No crime' in attempted abduction probe

Following an investigation into reports an 11-year-old girl was approached by two men in St Michaels, detectives say it has been established no crime took place.

Two men arrested yesterday have been released without charge.

The girl reported the incident, which allegedly took place at around 3.30pm on Thursday on Blackpool Road, close to the junction with Rivermede.

Police said they arrested two men in Great Eccleston shortly after the incident was reported to them.

Det Insp Jason Richardson of Blackpool CID said: “We take all reports of attempted child abduction extremely seriously and we have conducted a thorough investigation after the young girl came forward and reported this to us.

“Following our enquiries, it has been established that no criminal offences have taken place and the two men who were arrested have now been released."

A 27-year-old man from Bury and a 53-year-old man from Bolton were arrested on suspicion of attempted child abduction. They will face no further action.
