UPDATE: Man ‘sectioned’ after Heysham OAP murder bid

A man arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of an 85-year-old woman in Heysham has been sectioned under The Mental Health Act.

The 57-year-old man has been transferred to a secure unit.

The elderly woman was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital unconscious after being assaulted with what is believed to be a paving stone.

The woman remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A spokesman for North West Air Ambulance said the incident was classed as a “major trauma”.

The air ambulance landed on St Peter’s School field in Heysham after the incident on Thursday morning at a property on School Road in Heysham village.

Police were also called to the scene.
