UPDATE: Ajudication begins on test cases to decide future of Fishergate bus lanes

Six appeals, which could decide the legality of Preston's controversial Fishergate bus lanes, have now begun.

But the adjudicator, barrister Stephen knoll, says there will be no verdict today as there is “too much to consider”

A Traffic Penalty Tribunal is sitting at the Legacy Preston International Hotel in Marsh Lane to rule on half a dozen test cases brought by drivers hit with £60 fines for using the bus lanes between 11am and 6pm.

The appeals all have separate grounds for complaint, including inadequate signs and a lack of road markings. And the adjudication on each one is likely to decide whether hundreds more drivers will either have to pay up, or have their penalty notices torn up.
