Two people rescued by firefighters after serious flat fire in Heysham

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire on the third floor of a four storey building near The Battery in Heysham Road was "well alight" when they arrived at the scene.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, four hose reels, a drone and an aerial ladder platform from Preston to tackle the blaze.

Two casualties were rescued, and North West Ambulance Service said that one of them was taken to hospital.

Fire crews were still at the scene after midnight, but all involved had been accounted for by then.
