Hannah Horner, from The Borough, said: "Today we handed over our rooms free of charge to our hardworking NHS staff so that they don’t have to go home and put their families at risk.

"Thanks everyone in our NHS for everything you are doing for us all. Stay safe."

Quite Simply French said: "We have offered our bedrooms to the NHS should they come to need extra accommodation for the increase in staff. Free of charge of course."

Other accommodation providers are also understood to be offering free beds for key workers.

Aaron Cummins, Chief Executive, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We have been inundated with really kind and generous offers from local schools and childcare providers, local firms and individuals - and all our colleagues are incredibly grateful for this kindness and consideration at what is such a difficult time for everyone.

Thank you so much."
