Investigation launched after guitar, camping gear, TV, chairs, mattress and sofa dumped in Heysham

Lancaster City Council has launched an investigation into two separate fly-tipping incidents at Morecambe Rifle and Pistol Club, and at Middleton Sands.

It said it had collected evidence as to who might be responsible for the illegal dumping of waste, which carries a fine of up to £50,000 and a prison sentence of up to five years.

In one of the incidents, an acoustic guitar, sofas, camping gear, a mattress, and a TV were among items dumped.

A city council spokesperson said: "Have you given up playing the guitar or going camping recently and bought a new three-piece suite and TV instead?

"We’re currently investigating two separate incidents of fly-tipping at Morecambe Rifle and Pistol Club and Middleton Sands and by the looks of it, someone’s been having a good old clear out and involved in disposing of it illegally.

"Evidence has been gathered as to who it might belong to and investigations are underway.

"If any of this is yours, you could be getting a call from our enforcement team soon and fined or prosecuted, even if you paid someone else to dispose of it for you.

"Dumping waste illegally is a serious criminal offence.

"It carries a fine of up to £50,000 (unlimited if the case goes to crown court) and a prison sentence of up to five years.
