Two fined after illegal bonfire involving dumped furniture in Blackburn

Two people have been fined after contributing to an illegal bonfire on council-owned land in Blackburn.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council said the fire was lit in November last year on Whitendale Crescent without permission.

An investigation by the council’s environmental crime team identified those responsible after bedroom furniture was dumped and burned on the site.

Both individuals were issued £200 fines.

The council said bonfires on council-owned land are illegal without permission, and warned that burning waste can cause nuisance and environmental harm.

Residents who choose to hold a bonfire on private land with the landowner’s consent are advised to burn only clean, untreated wood.
