He ran Applejax nightclub in Chorley for many years and was connected with a number of pubs in the town, including the Rose and Crown on St Thomas’s Road.

He leaves a wife Andrea and daughter Danielle.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Recent messages on his Facebook page include: Hannah Restall: “Went in pub last night for a drink with him. Me and Alfie were in tears laughing at the New Year’s Day hunt 2015 when we helped him mount up on Dolly. He parked in someone’s private drive, dropped the ramp and squashed their bushes, tied his stock in a double knot because he couldn’t do it properly.... finally jumped on Dolly, missed the saddle and fell straight off the other side, hit the deck like a sack of spuds! Lying on the floor he looked up and laughed while Dolly trampled the poor home owner’s perfectly mowed lawn! I have never laughed so hard!! A legend in soo many ways!! Xxx”.

Rob Barrow: “I was having a drink with Kurt Smith in The Imp before he headed off to Applejax not so long ago and asked him what his favourite record of all time was.

He told me it was ‘Rappers Delight’ by The Sugarhill Gang and winked. So this one’s for you Kurt. I’ll be giving you a special shout out on stage with them at the next gig. RIP Boss. One love.”
