One man in his late 20s has been taken to the major trauma centre at Royal Preston Hospital with serious chest injuries.

Two other casualties have also been taken to hospital, one with an arm injury and the other having sustained minor injuries.

Pictures taken at the scene show the wrecked vehicles - a Vauxhall Vivaro van and a Lexus RX - that appear to have been involved in a head-on collision.

Lancashire Police said the driver of one of the vehicles - a 36-year-old woman - has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
