Trains delayed between Preston, Wigan, Blackpool and Manchester

Rail commuters are being warned of cancellations to journeys between Preston and Wigan this morning (Monday, February 1).

Services have been cancelled between Preston and Wigan North Western stations due to a points failure on the line near Preston, which has left some lines blocked.

Northern says disruption to its services is expected until around 8.15am.

It is affecting services between Wigan North Western and Barrow In Furness, between Preston and Manchester Victoria and between Blackpool North and Manchester Airport in both directions.

A Northern spokesman said: "Our advice to our customers is to expect delays of up to 30 minutes this morning on services between Preston and Wigan North Western due to a points failure near Preston.

"This is affecting services between Wigan North Western and Barrow In Furness in both directions. Services between Preston to Manchester Victoria in both directions. Services between Blackpool North to Manchester Airport in both directions

"The first service affected is the 6.16am Wigan North Western to Barrow In Furness.

"Staff are due to site at 7.10am to begin repairs.
