These are the Preston city centre roads that will close for works and those that are reopening

A number of city centre roads will reopen whilst others will close around the University of Central Lancashire as part of its ongoing £200 million Masterplan development.

Friargate, Moor Lane and a new road replacing the Adelphi roundabout will fully reopen to motorists from Monday (October 19).

Nearby Walker Street is then due to re-open in mid-November, while ongoing works in Adelphi Street will keep it closed until spring.

But further road closures are planned, with Corporation Street due to be closed to traffic once the new Friargate route opens, as the next phase of roadworks get under way.

The Corporation Street works are scheduled to begin on Sunday (October 18) between the junctions with Edward Street and Kendal Street, with the road to stay closed until March 2021.

Motorists will be diverted down Friargate as an alternative route for the next six months.

Planners recommend that those seeking to turn right on to Ringway to access Fishergate or Preston Docks should use Heatley Street to return to Corporation Street.

Balfour Beatty operations manager, Graeme Moffat, said: "We would like to thank the public for their cooperation as we make progress and move into Phase Four of the highways scheme.

"Our dedicated teams and supply chain partners continue to work efficiently and safely throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, strictly adhering to Balfour Beatty’s Site operating procedures to ensure the continued health, safety and well-being of all those who work for and with us."

The university says its car parks will remain available and free for public use at weekends.
