Preston-bound motorists were left stuck in a standstill on the Penwortham bypass after a crash on the Guild Way flyover at around 7.20am.
Some people said they had been trapped in the miles-long queue for up to two hours, with some vehicles requiring roadside rescue services due to overheating.
