Serious crash closes major Burnley road

A major Burnley road has been closed in both directions after a serious crash early this morning (Tuesday, January 19).

The crash happened in Colne Road at the junction with Casterton Avenue at around 6.30am. Details on injuries have not been provided at this stage.

The road is currently shut both ways between Casterton Avenue and Peart Street and is expected to remain closed for much of the morning.

Traffic is coping well in the area, but there is congestion near Burnley General Hospital.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes this morning.

A police spokesman said: "We are currently at the scene of a collision on Colne Road at the junction with Casterton Avenue in Burnley.

"The road is likely to be closed for some time and motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

"We will update you in due course."

Bus services between Burnley and Nelson are delayed and diverted due to the road closure.

Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service have been approached for further details.
