Since early January, hospital staff have enjoyed free use of the college car park in Sharoe Green Lane, whilst staff and students have been at home under lockdown.

But from today, as Preston's College reopens full-time, hospital staff will lose general access to the car park and will be restricted to a few designated spaces.

In a note to staff, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals said: "As you are all aware we have had use of Preston College's car parks over the past few months and we would like to thank them for this.

"The college is reopening from Monday, March 8, 2021.

"The use of the car parking facilities will have to return to normal, meaning that staff will now only be able to park in the designated Lancashire Teaching hospitals allotted spaces.

"We would like to ask staff to be aware of the changes and to be courteous to the college students and employees and park in the appropriate bays moving forward."

The loss of the college car parking spaces will likely lead to extra strain on the staff car parks at Royal Preston Hospital, which reintroduced parking charges for staff in November.

It might also lead to further concerns about on-street parking in the area, which has been the subject of complaints from residents in the past.
