Multi-vehicle crash leaves one person trapped in car on M61

A multi-vehicle crash involving four vehicles caused one person to be trapped and resulted in delays on the M61.

An accident on the M61 southbound between junctions 9 (M65) and 8 (Chorley) forced two of three lanes to close yesterday evening (February 10).

The incident happened at around 6.54pm.

It has now been confirmed that the collision involved four vehicles.

One person was trapped inside one of the vehicles and had to be extricated by firefighters at the scene.

They were handed over to the care of paramedics on the scene.

Three other people were also given precautionary checks by paramedics.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Three fire crews from Bamber Bridge and Chorley attended reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the M61 motorway, southbound between junction nine and eight.

"On arrival they found the incident involved four vehicles and there was a trapped casualty.

"Crews were in attendance approximately one hour."

Motorists had been experiencing delays of up to 14 minutes with an average speed of five mph, according to the AA.
