Emergency services attended the scene of the crash, between junction 1 (Preston, A6, Garstang) and junction 3 (Kirkham, Fleetwood A585) at around 8.25am.
North West Ambulance Service said a man has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance, but details on his injuries are not clear at this stage.
An ambulance spokesman said: "We were called at 8.29am and we have taken one male passenger to hospital in an ambulance. Further details are not yet available."
Lanes one and two (Of three) were closed, leading to delays for those heading to Blackpool and the Fylde this morning.
The crash also caused congestion at the Broughton Interchange, affecting traffic coming from the M6 northbound.
Highways reopened all lanes on the M55 westbound at around 9am after the vehicles had been moved to a place of safety.
But Highways has been forced to close another lane on the same stretch of carriageway at around 10am after a lorry burst its tyre.
Lane one is now closed whilst a tyre fitter works on the lorry but traffic is coping well.
