M6, M55 and M61 delays around Preston after crash adds to holiday traffic congestion

There are delays on the motorways around Preston after a crash on the M6 this morning (Friday, August 12).

Traffic on the southbound M6 was stopped whilst emergency services attended the scene between junctions 32 (M55, Broughton Interchange) and 31A (B6242 Bluebell Way, Longridge) at around 11am.

The stricken car was moved to the hard shoulder and all lanes are now open.

But drivers are still battling with slow moving traffic on the motorways around Preston due to holiday traffic heading west to Blackpool and north to the Lake District.

For those travelling north on the M6, there are currently delays of around 20 minutes between junctions J32 (Preston, M55) and J33 (Lancaster (South) A6), with particularly heavy congestion where the M55 joins the M6 north.

There are also delays of around 10 minutes on the northbound M61 at junction 9 (Walton Summit), where the motorway meets the M6 at junction 30.
