Lorry crash leads to overnight M6 closure between Preston and Lancaster
A lorry overturned on the M6 last night, leading to an overnight closure between Preston and Lancaster.
Emergency Services rushed to the scene at junction 33 on the southbound carriageway at around 11.40pm last night (April 18) after the lorry crashed and overturned.
An immediate closure was put in place between junctions 34 at Lancaster and 32 at Preston whilst police and ambulance crews attended.
Lancashire Police say no-one has been seriously injured. North West Ambulance Service has been approached for further details on casualties.
Police pictures from the scene show the overturned lorry on the motorway, which also damaged safety barriers near the southbound slip road.
The crash also caused an oil spillage which led to a clean-up operation lasting several hours, with the stretch of M6 remaining closed until 5am.
A spokesman for Lancs Road Police tweeted: "Overturned wagon M6 J33, thankfully no serious injuries. M6 South from J34 will be shut for the next couple of hours whilst we get it back on its feet."
Highways North West added: "The M6 southbound #J34 (#Lancaster #Morecambe A683) to #J32 (#BroughtonInterchange #Blackpool #PrestonNorth) is in the process of being closed to recover an overturned HGV.
"Traffic Officers, @LancsRoadPolice, @NWAmbulance and Recovery are currently at scene."
