Infant among five casualties rushed to hospital after four-car crash in Chorley

Five people, including an infant, have been involved in a serious crash in Chorley.

The incident in Blackburn Road, near Heapey and Wheelton, happened shortly before 11pm last night (February 6) and involved four vehicles.

More than a dozen emergency service vehicles were dispatched to the scene, with fire crews having to free two people trapped in one of the car's.

North West Ambulance Service said paramedics treated two women and a man at the scene. All three had suffered serious injuries.

They were taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance, along with two other casualties, including a young child.

NWAS mobilised four ambulances, two advanced paramedics, a rapid response unit and three HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) ambulances.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service responded with two fire engines and rescued two people from a car using cutting equipment.

An NWAS spokesman said: "We were called at 10.54pm to reports of a serious road traffic accident in Blackburn Road in Chorley.

"Five casualties were treated - four adults and an infant.

"We sent a rapid response unit, four ambulances, two advanced paramedics and three HART ambulances to the scene.

"Three casualties were treated at the scene for serious injuries, two male and one male, before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Two other casualties were also taken to hospital by ambulance."

Blackburn Road was closed to traffic for more than two hours.

A spokesman for LFRS said: "At 11pm, two fire engines from Chorley attended a road traffic collision in Blackburn Road, Chorley.

"The collision involved four vehicles with two persons trapped.

"Firefighters released two casualties using holmatro cutting equipment and were at the scene for approximately forty minutes.

"Five people were taken to hospital by road ambulance."

Lancashire Police have been approached for comment.
